Well it seems like i just talked with
you guys...but here’s what happened in the past few days:
Well I don´t think i mentioned this but
we had a baptism. This girl named Abigail who we were teaching and i feel like
we didn´t have to work too hard with her because she was going to seminary on
her own and became probably one of the most active youths in the ward but just
not a member yet. But for her confirmation she went to live at her dads house
in anther city so she didn´t get confirmed and this week is general
conference...so she´s basically in limbo or something I don´t know. The actual
baptism part was probably the hardest part though because there was no water in
the church but the stake president told us that there was water in the well
that the church has...but he didn´t have the key and none of the bishops did
either. We found this super old guy who says he´s the ¨caretaker¨ who had the
key....but there was no water. We called the office to check for a chapel with
water....and there was one in the center.
We did some service too...because lots
of people´s houses got destroyed and it´s super sad. It looked like it just
snowed 4 feet...except instead of snow it´s mud and dirt. So wherever the giant
water river hit, or in quetchua they say huaico, the houses are filled with a
good 2 feet of pure mud all throughout the entire house and in some places even
the second floors. So we had 20 missionaries work on one house from 8:30 to 12
just clearing out someone´s living room....it´s seriously going to take months
to clear out this dirt...some people say it´s going to get back to normal
probably by the end of the year...so like half my mission.
The mission gave us masks because the
water entered this giant grave yard...oh yeah did I not mention that the dead
people have been coming out of their grave, I haven´t seen anything besides
photos but I don´t think it´s as bad as the dead person water slide that came
in ´98...but because of that they say the dust caries a bunch of diseases from
dead people. In the past week every member of our district has gotten sick vomiting
and fever my turn was last week vomiting in church...now I’m good.
Also the other day we were waiting for a
member in a park so we were watching these people play soccer and it was like
some sort of street tournament were every team pays an entry fee or
something....but since it´s a street tournament there are also street
rules....so a huge fight broke out and there was probably like 50 people
clumped together in this massacre and some kid ran down with his bike and threw
that in there too. Anyway the tournament was cancelled or something because
they stopped playing and our member showed up.
Anyway I´m super fine and not injured or
have been mugged yet...it´s still super hot and we can wear hats so I’m
planning on going into town to get a hat when the streets are passable.
Anyway I love everyone,
Elder Thompson
